The enrichment widgets in the list analysis page perform an one-tailed Fisher’s exact test for different biological themes, e.g. pathways, gene ontology, disease… etc.
There are four values needed for calculating the p-value.
- The number of how many genes (or proteins) in the whole genome (proteome) are associated with any one of the biological theme.
- The number of how many genes (or proteins) in the whole genome (proteome) are associated with the specific biological theme.
- The number of how many genes (or proteins) in your upload list are associated with any one of the biological theme.
- The number of how many genes (or proteins) in your upload list are associated with the specific biological theme.
These 4 values are used for doing the one-tailed Fisher’s exact test. Only the overrepresented biological themes will get a significant p-value.
