Enrichment analysis

The enrichment widgets in the list analysis page perform an one-tailed Fisher’s exact test for different biological themes, e.g. pathways, gene ontology, disease… etc.

There are four values needed for calculating the p-value.

  1. The number of how many genes (or proteins) in the whole genome (proteome) are associated with any one of the biological theme.
  2. The number of how many genes (or proteins) in the whole genome (proteome) are associated with the specific biological theme.
  3. The number of how many genes (or proteins) in your upload list are associated with any one of the biological theme.
  4. The number of how many genes (or proteins) in your upload list are associated with the specific biological theme.

These 4 values are used for doing the one-tailed Fisher’s exact test. Only the overrepresented biological themes will get a significant p-value.
